While Mr. Soren holds an extremely passionate position (opinion) in
regards to the direction he feels Carlos should steer his career towards,
it is completely up to Carlos to make his own choices in terms of his
creative passion. So, I have an appreciation of Soren's (and persons
who share his opinion) emotional and intellectual wish that Carlos
should have remained mired in a specific period of his creative
evolution and creative opportunities, however Soren and those like him
are NOT Carlos nor are they Carlos creative and spiritual force (god if
you will) and do not have any bearing on his career. So basically, my
understanding of these types of passionate opinions is one of
compassion and empathy....however I do not share his opinion and
desire for Carlos to stay within a specific box, or genre or time period.
One has to reach and leave ones comfort zone, to dream, to risk, to
take a chance, to trust, to make a journey in order to grow. I believe
Carlos has done just this and judging by the recent concerts and
upcoming Multi Dimensional Warrior track list and recent interviews
proclaiming other projects (trio project w/Narada etc...) it appears that
Carlos has indeed grown and as a result of that growth is looking
towards new and different opportunities that are distant from the past
few releases. Beyond that, IMHO I feel that repeated complaining to the
rest of Santana fans whom choose to lurk/post are much like listening
to a broken record of ...say...Michelle Branch - Annoying and painful.
Soren, with all due respect, you've made your point numerous times,
you continue to say the same thing and your really just sound like a
frustrated fan who needs attention and enjoys discourse. The beauty of
recorded music is that you can listen to what you want when you want.
Pull out the Santana from the era's you enjoy and enjoy it. If and when
Carlos releases/plays material that you are more fond of, I'm sure
you'll be completely back as a full fledged fan with positive comments
to share. Meanwhile, I continue to enjoy most of Carlos' live and
recorded music of recent and look forward to new directions/music in
the future. You can't please everyone all of the time, might as well
please yourself!
