I have 2 lp's from Gabor Szabo 'Spellbinder' and 'The Sourcerer', I like it, but it doesn't move me. Paco de Lucia is too fast for me, I feel that the melody often gets lost in all the notes that are played. Talking about George Benson, I love his 'Summertime', but not his guitarplaying but his voice, I could swear it was a woman singing, but upon checking the liner notes it turned out that George was singing, amazing. Maybe I have to listen to Grant Green, but I have the suspicion that it will be too jazzy like, Sonny Sharrock is more fusion like. Maybe it's more about the melody and songs and not about who's playing the guitar, although tone and passion add a lot. Somehow Carlos always surprises us with great instrumentals (Revelations, Oneness, The call, Ah Sweet dancer, Trail of tears etc. etc. etc.), somehow all those other guitarists don't have those kind of songs (palmares), maybe that's the big difference. I liked Ottmar Liebert and Strunz and Farah as well, because they also have a lot of feeling and passion in their playing. I have a compilation cd of Paco de Lucia and sadly there isn't one song that's moving me. But that's music, it's all subjective. Thanks for the recommendations Frank.
