Hi,

Maybe a strange topic, but the thing I loved in Santana's sound the first time I heard him (by borrowing a K-Tel lp in a local library in 1988) I got addicted to the passion, intensity and above all melody in his songs. It was the first time I cried while hearing a song, that was with 'I love you much too much' and 'Europa'. There are not a lot of guitarists who can make me cry or who gives me the chills. Roy Buchanan did it for me while I heard his 'Messiah will come again' on radio late at night while I was a teenager. It's so melancholic, so soulful. I also love his song 'Hidden' (with Stanley Clarke on bass). It's all in the melody, I guess I'm a melancholic type that's why I like the tone of Carlos, Roy Buchanan, Gary Moore (Midnight Blues, Parisienne Walkways), Ronnie Earle and sadly that's about it. And let's not forget Riley Blues Boy King with 'The thrill is gone', also a song that made me cry, maybe the combination with the strings did it lol. If music can give you those profound emotions, than a musician has reached its goal in my humble opinion. I don't like guitarists like Satriani, Vai or Van Halen, I don't care how fast they can play, I simply miss the sould and feeling in their playing. Technically they are maybe miles ahead of Carlos, but it's all about 'a note that can make you laugh and cry at the same time' (quote Carlos). I just would like to hear your input to which guitarists you like to listen. I've seen some stuff of Derek Trucks with Carlos, which sounds great. He definitely has the tone as well. 'Riviera Paradise' pops up in my head as well as being one of those songs. I know it's a senseless topic, but I just want to broaden my horizon.
