but my understanding of truth brings me no relief until it is practiced and put into action. I suppose that is what is missing with a lot of these new age teachers (not saying that Scott Peck is one), is that a lot of what they say is not practical, and even if it is practical it does not give credit where it is due. It does not go to the source (God) and draw its truth and strength from him.
Life is difficult, because our "will" to follow our own selfish desires is very strong. And so these egoic desires causes us to suffer because the peace that it promised we would have does not deliver and if it does it is only temporary.
Life is difficult because our love for self is very strong; from the very beginning we are are born into a world of sin, not that we are born with sin, but into sin, a difference that many Christians do not understand. The ego, we can't live with it, we can't live without it. It is a downfall but without it, we cannot be reformed nor regenerated.
Back to living out our faith and putting them to practice; a person who enjoys doing good, gets his happiness from the "doing" not from what he gets from it (praises, gifts, etc), so while life is difficult, we can have a bit of heaven on this side.
