Hey Dee,
I've heard that analogy many times. The problem with that is if you're going to apply that to the Godhead, it doesn't make sense because although one may hold different titles in respect to other people, you cannot be your own father, nor your own husband, neither your own brother, or what have you. Likewise, Christ cannot be His own Father, or His own son, etc.
One of the best explanations about it can be found in John 17 during Christ's intercessory prayer. He asks the Father to help the apostles and all those who follow Him "that they all may be one as thou father art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us..." Christ is not asking the Father for the apostles and all his disciples to lose their individuality and become one in entity. It wouldn't make sense if Christ were asking His Father to do that. It would make more sense for Christ to mean that he wants His apostles and disciples to be one in purpose, mind and heart. That's what makes sense to me at least and that's what the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints teaches. Hopes that helps.
There are a plethora of scriptures indicating that God the Father and Jesus Christ are seperate entities, yet one in purpose. If you're interested, just ask or visit the link as provided above. Thanks Dee for being cool about it.
