The Malietoa families came to a agreement that there will be three clans that will be called Aiga Nofo, or Suli ole Malietoa. #1 Pouvi- Malietoa Taimalelagi Gatuta'isina #2 Poutoa- Malietoa Talavou #3 Pouesi- Malietoa Moliapapalagi.Since all Malietoa families are related to these 3 lines one way or another, this is where they elect the Malietoa. Again it's a matter of % of blood relationship to the title, able and willing, and family criteria, that a Malietoa is elected. hope that shed some light on your question
