Hello! Why do you think they are numbered? I can go back six of seven generations before the first Malietoa. And yes they were recognised by Samoa and the authority of the day. You must remember that the title originated in Malie, but because of usuga of the Malietoa Ti'a to Tau'failematagi, the daughter of Li'o in Sapapalii, the title went to Sapapalii, and so forth. The rest of the Malietoas are all from Sapapalii. That is why the aiga nofo, or suli's of the Malietoa are in Sapapali. Burial? Not all of the Malietoas are buried in Malie, so thats a moot point. And as far as marriage is concerned, its a word I like to use out of respect. The word I usually use is usu,but since I'm writing in english, I like to use marriage. Marriages in ancient Samoa are called Tausama'aga, and is very complex, but if you want to know, let me know and I will explain what Tausama'aga is.
