To be honest with you, I don't know very much about the pa pa titles GATOA'ITELE, AND VAETAMASOALI'I, except that those are the papa titles which are owned and conferred by the Village Malie, and the Tuamasaga, (district) GATOAITELE(title) TUISAMAU(orators).The village Afega, and Safata(district)VAETAMASOALI'I, (tile), AU'IMATAGI(orators). I believe that these titles are bestowed upon the person that is elected Malietoa from the 3 suli clans. Yes, I believe that only the 3 suli clans can and will elect a Malietoa, granted they compromise, and come to some kind of agreement, because it was agreed upon by the families, and sealed by the courts, (example 1939).
