Sapapali'i is the honorary seat and home for the esteemed Malietoa title and its succession of heirs for over four centuries. The Malietoa title is only conferred upon those who are direct descendants of any of the three following branches of the family:

Poutoa- Moliapapalagi
Pouesi- Talavou
Pouvi- Gatuitasina

Aiga Sa Malietoa and Usoalii is the fuaiala of paramount chiefs (Alii).

Mago ma Luasiu.F.anua refers to the three fuaiala of orators (tulafale):

a. Mago refers to Sapapali'i fuaiala
b. Luasiu.F.anua refers to the two other fuaialas, Itu o le Nofoalii or Vaitolo and Faiga
